Shenandoah River - South Fork Shenandoah River

South Fork Shenandoah River

The South Fork is formed at Port Republic in southern Rockingham County, by the confluence of the North River and South River. It flows 98.5 miles (158.5 km) northeast in a tight meandering course, past Elkton and Shenandoah, through Page Valley, with the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Massanutten Mountain range to the west.

Famous quotes containing the words south, fork and/or river:

... while the South is hardly Christ-centered, it is most certainly Christ-haunted.
    Flannery O’Connor (1925–1964)

Wherever a man separates from the multitude, and goes his own way in this mood, there indeed is a fork in the road, though ordinary travelers may see only a gap in the paling. His solitary path across lots will turn out the higher way of the two.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Come, heart, where hill is heaped upon hill:
    For there the mystical brotherhood
Of sun and moon and hollow and wood
And river and stream work out their will....
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
