Time has estranged you into a jewel cold and pure;”
—Edna St. Vincent Millay (18921950)
“If a man was tossed out of a window when an infant, and so made a cripple for life, or scared out of his wits by the Indians, it is regretted chiefly because he was thus incapacitated forbusiness! “To me education is a leading out of what is already there in the pupils soul. To Miss Mackay it is a putting in of something that is not there, and that is not what I call education, I call it intrusion.”
