Sailor Mars

Sailor Mars (セーラーマーズ, Sērā Māzu?) is a fictional lead character in the Sailor Moon media franchise. The alternate identity of Rei Hino (火野 レイ, Hino Rei?, or Raye Hino in the English adaptations), a teenage Japanese schoolgirl and Shinto priestess, she belongs to the Sailor Senshi, female supernatural fighters who the franchise's main girl characters transform into to fulfill their duty of protecting the Solar System and the franchise's eponymous protagonist from evil.

Sailor Mars is the third Sailor Senshi to be discovered by Sailor Moon and the secondary leader of the Guardian (or "Inner") Senshi after Sailor Venus. She possesses powers associated with fire, as well as psychic and spiritual ones.

Aside from the main body of the Sailor Moon series, Rei features in two different manga short stories. The first, Casablanca Memories, is entirely about her and her past; the second, Rei and Minako's Girls School Battle, is shared with Minako Aino. A number of image songs mentioning her character have been released as well, including the contents of three different CD singles.

Famous quotes containing the words sailor and/or mars:

Captain Bligh: Mr. Byam, you’re up late.
Byam: It’s very warm below, sir.
Captain Bligh: I hadn’t noticed it. A true sailor can sleep in an oven, if need be, or in a keg of ice.
    Talbot Jennings (1896–1985)

What makes the United States government, on the whole, more tolerable—I mean for us lucky white men—is the fact that there is so much less of government with us.... But in Canada you are reminded of the government every day. It parades itself before you. It is not content to be the servant, but will be the master; and every day it goes out to the Plains of Abraham or to the Champs de Mars and exhibits itself and toots.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
