Famous quotes containing the words modern and/or russia:
“There is something terribly morbid in the modern sympathy with pain. One should sympathise with the colour, the beauty, the joy of life. The less said about lifes sores the better.”
—Oscar Wilde (18541900)
“A fool may be a dangerous customer, but the fact of his having such a vulnerable top-end turns danger into a first-rate sport; and whatever defects the old administration in Russia had, it must be conceded that it possessed one outstanding virtuea lack of brains.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
