Ruprekha Banerjee was born on 28 July 1984 in Bongaon, Dist: Noth 24 Parganas,West Bengal, India, to Bengali parents, Shri. Pradip Kr. Banerjee and Smt. Kabita Banerjee. She spent her first three months of her life in her birthplace in West Bengal, then she moved to a place called Agarpara, Kolkata, where her father, who is a Business Man. She has spent first eighteen teen years of formative part of her life there and completed her schooling up to Tenghth Standard, in Ramkrishna Mission, Barack pore and then 12th Standard from Ariyadaha Sarbamangala Vidyapith and then VidyaSagar College-Kolkata with Zoology Hons.

Life at Agarpara was simple. There used to be cultural programs and social gatherings very often. Her Grandfather is a singer and both of her parents are very much culturally inclined and they were very much involved with all those cultural activities. During those activities, as a small child she picked up her first lessons of music. She used to hum the same songs with her immature words whatever her Grandfather sang during rehearsals. It is during those days her potentials of singing was discovered by her Grandfather.

At the age of 6, she started learning music, mainly Rabindra Sangget, from her first Guru – her Grandfather. She gave her first stage performance at their club’s annual function. At the age of 7, she started getting formal training in Hindustani Classical Music. She learnt Classical Hindustani Music from Sangeeta Das of Agarpara, Neela Gowsami up to age of 10, Anju Chakraborty up to age of 16, She learnt Light Classical Hindustan Music from Pandit Arun Bhaduri and thereafter, She got her initial exposure to Bengali film background songs and Bengali serial title song. She received training in playback singing from Legendary Bharat Ratna Pandit Late Bhimsen Joshi’s student Maloy Banerjee at later stage at Mumbai after shifting to Mumbai. She continued her training in Classical Hindustani Music with Late Mira Bandhopadhya’s student Kanika Mitra.

In 2005 she moved to Mumbai with her family when she crown winner of Fame Gurukul. The singer has won and has been nominated for a number of awards. She won the “Fame Gurukul” Award for Most Promising reality show for Mast and also won a “Uttam Kumar” Award and won award of the “Sera Bengali-2006”.She won “Sananda Adittiya” Award, Best Rising Singer Award 2012 (Kalakar Award), Radio Mirchhi Best Album 2012 “Bondhu Hobe” Nomination also.

In 2005, she was the winner of Fame Gurukul, the All India Music Competition, Mumbai, organized by Sony TV. Eminent judges Javed Akhtar, Kamal Khan, and Sankar Mahadevan her at various stages. Jury member Javed Akhtar said she spreads beauty of her nature in her singing.

In 2006, she was selected for special episode of “Jo Jita Wohi Superstar” being the judged by a panel of judges composed of Vishal Dadlani, Sekhar Ravijani and Farha Khan.

In 2007, she started recording in regional languages (Bhojpuri, Bengali, etc.)

After Fame Gurukul, she has been continuously working and recording songs with many music directors. She has recorded film songs not only in Bengali but also in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Gujrarati, etc.

She worked with music directors including Bickram Ghosh, Ashok Bhadra, Sankar Mahadevan, Indrajit Dey, Nabin Chottopadhya, Raju Mukherjee, Prasenjit Chatterjee, Arup Om,Joy Sarkar, Rupankar, Goutam Ghosal, Indradeep dasgupta, Subhadeep Chatterjee, Purbayan Chatterjee.

She has been performing all over the world along with legends like Md. Aziz, Udit Narayan, Babul Supriyo, Abhijit Bhattacharya, Vinod Rathor, Kailash Kher, Rupankar, Rupam Islam, Raghab Chatterje.

She has judged child contestant in Musical Talent Show "Khoj-2”- Organized by Lions Club with exceptional ability.

She wishes to take her musical talent much beyond the film music and expand her horizon in other genre of music in particular Hindustani Classical Music.
