At the Kumba Mela (Festival of Religions) in Hardwar, on 2 April the same year, he gathered sadhus (itinerant monks) and "saintly men" in the "Conference of National Unity", with the aim of favoring cooperation, eliminating all religious barriers and bettering the economical asset of the poor people of India. Famous quotes containing the words year and/or life:

The boys dressed themselves, hid their accoutrements, and went off grieving that there were no outlaws any more, and wondering what modern civilization could claim to have done to compensate for their loss. They said they would rather be outlaws a year in Sherwood Forest than President of the United States forever.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

There is a relation between the hours of our life and the centuries of time. As the air I breathe is drawn from the great repositories of nature, as the light on my book is yielded by a star a hundred millions of miles distant, as the poise of my body depends on the equilibrium of centrifugal and centripetal forces, so the hours should be instructed by the ages and the ages explained by the hours.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
