Uniform

Whilst undertaking General Policing Duties RMP officers and soldiers wear the British Army Multi-Terrain Pattern combat uniform, black boots and red beret, with a protective stab-vest marked 'Military Police' with the RMP Crest front and rear and standard Police belt kit, containing a baton and quick-cuffs, amongst other things. Over this is worn either a standard hi-vis fluorescent yellow utility Police vest or a full hi-vis Jacket, marked with 'Military Police' front and rear.

When working in the office on investigations RMP personnel wear only the standard MTP uniform with red beret. However, many RMP units are now following an old tradition of wearing Barrack Dress on Fridays. Barrack dress consists of the FAD issue khaki trousers or skirt, a fawn collared shirt with brown tie and olive green woolen pullover bearing gold 'RMP' shoulder titles on the epaulettes. Should personnel by required to go on duty in that dress it would be worn with a scarlet armband with black ‘MP’ initials worn on the right arm and whistle on a chain attached to a belt loop on their left side with the whistle tucked into their left pocket. This dress is worn with the traditional scarlet peaked cap and either bulled black boots or shoes.

For ceremonial duties the RMP have transitioned from wearing the previous No. 2 Service Dress to the new standard Future Army Dress (FAD). FAD is similar to Barrack dress, but is worn with a khaki jacket replacing the pullover, with a brown belt around the centre of the jacket. The jacket is worn with the RMP capbadge on the collar, whistle on chain, the black and red Adjutant General's Corps aiguillette on the left sleeve, rank in white on the right sleeve and scarlet armbands with black 'MP' initials on, worn just under the bottom of the rank. Black leather gloves are sometimes worn in cold/wet weather.

Many RMP personnel have access to and wear the No. 1 Ceremonial Dress Uniform, worn for special events such as weddings, freedom of city parades and mess functions. It is a midnight blue uniform in the same design as the FAD uniform for women, and with a stiff upright collar and trouser braces for men. Rank is worn in gilt gold on a red background, and the shirt worn is white with a midnight blue tie. Once again the whistle and peaked cap are worn but instead of a blue belt a white belt with bright brass clasps is worn and on some occasions white gloves are worn.

Famous quotes containing the word uniform:

We call ourselves a free nation, and yet we let ourselves be told what cabs we can and can’t take by a man at a hotel door, simply because he has a drum major’s uniform on.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)

I’ve always been impressed by the different paths babies take in their physical development on the way to walking. It’s rare to see a behavior that starts out with such wide natural variation, yet becomes so uniform after only a few months.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)

The Federal Constitution has stood the test of more than a hundred years in supplying the powers that have been needed to make the Central Government as strong as it ought to be, and with this movement toward uniform legislation and agreements between the States I do not see why the Constitution may not serve our people always.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
