When Deployed On Operations
The Royal Military Police are required to provide tactical military police support to the Army in all phases of military operations. When deployed, some of the roles the RMP fulfill include:
- First and foremost any RMP soldier male or female deployed frontline, embedding with Infantry Regiments are soldiers first and Policemen and women second. All RMP soldiers be it male or female who are deployed to assist the Infantry are expected to patrol on exactly the same patrols as the Infantrymen and to wear the same body armour and to carry the same kit and equipment, this includes defending yourself and your comrades in any enemy contacts
- However, as well as soldiering the skills that the RMP are expected to compliment the Infantry with are as follows:
- Controlling of mass incidents
- War crime investigations
- Handling criminal evidence
- Reconnaissance patrols
- Detainee handling
- Search operations
- General policing duties within operational bases
- Winning the hearts and minds of local people
- Foreign police and army training
- Providing female RMP in order to liaise with female natives of that country to ensure that they are treated with respect
- Provide medical assistance to both civilians and to act as Team Medics in order to treat fellow soldiers
