The longest-lived founding member of the RAF was Henry Allingham, who died on 18 July 2009 aged 113. As of July 2012, the Royal Air Force has a total manpower strength of 39,440 regular and 2,460 volunteer reserve personnel (such as the Royal Auxiliary Air Force). This gives a combined component strength of 41,900 personnel. In addition, there were 33,380 regular reserves of the Royal Air Force.
