Rockefeller Commission

Rockefeller Commission can refer to either of two commissions in U.S. history, although it is not the proper name of either:

  • The 1972 President's Commission on Population Growth and the American Future, headed by John D. Rockefeller III. It was created by an Act of Congress, which was signed into law by Richard Nixon in March 1970. The commission released its findings on March 27, 1972.
  • The 1975 United States President's Commission on CIA activities within the United States, headed by Nelson Rockefeller.

Famous quotes containing the words rockefeller and/or commission:

I know of nothing more despicable and pathetic than a man who devotes all the hours of the waking day to the making of money for money’s sake.
    —John D. Rockefeller (1839–1937)

It is impossible to calculate the moral mischief, if I may so express it, that mental lying has produced in society. When a man has so far corrupted and prostituted the chastity of his mind as to subscribe his professional belief to things he does not believe he has prepared himself for the commission of every other crime.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)
