Art Market

In 2009, the Gagosian Gallery was selected to represent the estate of Rauschenberg; his work had previously been handled by Pace Gallery for more than 15 years. Famous quotes containing the words art and/or market:

    That life is really so tragic would least of all explain the origin of an art form—assuming that art is not merely imitation of the reality of nature but rather a metaphysical supplement of the reality of nature, placed beside it for its overcoming.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

    Forbede us thing, and that desiren we;
    Preesse on us faste, and thanne wol we flee.
    With daunger oute we al oure chaffare:
    Greet prees at market maketh dere ware,
    And too greet chepe is holden at litel pris.
    Geoffrey Chaucer (1340?–1400)
