Writing
Craft collaborated with Stravinsky on a series of books that covered various musical and non-musical subjects: Conversations with Igor Stravinsky (N.Y., 1959); Memories and Commentaries (N.Y., 1960); Expositions and Developments (N.Y., 1962); Dialogues and a Diary (N.Y., 1963); Themes and Episodes (N.Y., 1967); Retrospectives and Conclusions (N.Y., 1969). They include transcribed conversations between the two men, interviews culled from various published sources, essays, diary entries, and the like, all with the professed aim of presenting Stravinsky's views on music and culture. There has been a great deal of controversy as to whether or not the books actually reflect Stravinsky's ideas; many feel that Craft's influence on the material is so strong as to make it impossible to determine how much of the material truly represents Stravinsky's views.

Famous quotes containing the word writing:
“You may be used to a day that includes answering eleven phone calls, attending two meetings, and writing three reports; when you are at home with an infant you will feel you have accomplished quite a lot if you have a shower and a sit-down meal in the same day.”
—Anne C. Weisberg (20th century)
“I am writing to resist the view that Europe and civilization are going to Hell. If I am being crucified for an ideaMthat is, the coherent idea around which my muddles accumulatedit is probably the idea that European culture ought to survive, that the best qualities of it ought to survive along with whatever cultures, in whatever universality. Against the propaganda of terror and the propaganda of luxury, have you a nice simple answer?”
—Ezra Pound (18851972)
“He who should inspire and lead his race must be defended from travelling with the souls of other men, from living, breathing, reading and writing in the daily, time-worn yoke of their opinions.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
