Succession
Rhodri died leaving his three sons to share his land between themselves. His eldest son Anarawd ap Rhodri became the king of Gwynedd. His second son Cadell ap Rhodri was given Seisyllwg; he later conquered Dyfed, which his son and heir Hywel Dda joined with Seisyllwg to become Deheubarth. Like his grandfather, Hywel would come to rule most of Wales. Rhodri's younger son Merfyn ap Rhodri became king of Powys.
