Reginald Hargreaves - Personal Life

Personal Life

Hargreaves married Alice Liddell – the inspiration for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland – on 15 September 1880 in Westminster Abbey. They had three sons: Alan Knyveton Hargreaves and Leopold Reginald "Rex" Hargreaves (both were killed in action in World War I); and Caryl Liddell Hargreaves, who survived to have a daughter of his own.

Hargreaves' brother-in-law Robert Henderson (no relation to his more famous namesake) played 24 first-class games, mostly for Middlesex, between 1872 and 1878.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

The grief of the keen is no personal complaint for the death of one woman over eighty years, but seems to contain the whole passionate rage that lurks somewhere in every native of the island. In this cry of pain the inner consciousness of the people seems to lay itself bare for an instant, and to reveal the mood of beings who feel their isolation in the face of a universe that wars on them with winds and seas.
    —J.M. (John Millington)

Our life on earth is, and ought to be, material and carnal. But we have not yet learned to manage our materialism and carnality properly; they are still entangled with the desire for ownership.
    —E.M. (Edward Morgan)
