Famous quotes containing the words red, banner, soviet and/or law:

    Here thou art painted in the dress
    Of an inhuman murderess;
    Examining upon our hearts
    Thy fertile shop of cruel arts:
    Engines more keen than ever yet
    Adorned tyrant’s cabinet,
    Of which the most tormenting are
    Black eyes, red lips, and curled hair.
    Andrew Marvell (1621–1678)

    The broken pillar of the wing jags from the clotted shoulder,
    The wing trails like a banner in defeat,
    Robinson Jeffers (1887–1962)

    Carlos Fuentes (b. 1928)

And I still insist that it is the law and the lawyer that make popular government under a written constitution and written statutes possible.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
