- Cyanidioschyzon merolae, a primitive red algae
- Atractophora hypnoides
- Gelidiella calcicola
- Lemanea, a freshwater genus
- Palmaria palmata, dulse

Famous quotes containing the words species of, species, red and/or algae:
“Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a mans appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.”
—Abraham Lincoln (18091865)
“The question that will decide our destiny is not whether we shall expand into space. It is: shall we be one species or a million? A million species will not exhaust the ecological niches that are awaiting the arrival of intelligence.”
—Freeman Dyson (b. 1923)
“All those girls
who wore the red shoes,
each boarded a train that would not stop.
Stations flew by like suitors and would not stop.
They all danced like trout on the hook.
They were played with.”
—Anne Sexton (19281974)
“there, where you live,
live:
start over,
everyman, with
the algae of your dreams.”
—Denise Levertov (b. 1923)
