LaHood and his wife Kathy have a residence in East Peoria, Illinois. Ray and Kathy have four children—Darin, Amy, Sam, Sara. Their son, Darin LaHood, is a current member of the Illinois Senate. Their other son, Sam LaHood, is currently Director of the International Republican Institute office in Egypt, a nongovernmental organization assisting democratization efforts, which has come under investigation by the Egyptian government; he was denied permission to leave the country because he was told he was on a “no-fly list”.
