Rail Transport Modelling - Thomas & Friends

Thomas & Friends

The children's show Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends was filmed on a model railway at Shepperton Studios from 1984 to 2008. All of the locomotives and other vehicles in the show were operated by radio. The models were built with moving-eye and eyelid mechanisms and removable clay faces, and the engines also included smoke generators. For Series 5 through to 12, some larger-scale models were used for the narrow gauge characters so that there was room for the complex mechanisms while retaining a sufficient level of detail. The model filming ended in 2008 when season 12 was over. The show then switched over to CGI. The models are now on display in a special exhibit at Drayton Manor Theme Park's Thomas Land.

Famous quotes containing the words thomas and/or friends:

My busy heart who shudders as she talks
Sheds the syllabic blood and drains her words.
    —Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

Every one of my friends had a bad day somewhere in her history she wished she could forget but couldn’t. A very bad mother day changes you forever. Those were the hardest stories to tell. . . . “I could still see the red imprint of his little bum when I changed his diaper that night. I stared at my hand, as if they were alien parts of myself . . . as if they had betrayed me. From that day on, I never hit him again.”
    Mary Kay Blakely (20th century)
