Documentary
Honest Man: The Life of R. Budd Dwyer, a full-length feature documentary about Dwyer, premiered at the Carmel Art & Film Festival on October 9, 2010. The Dwyer family attended the premiere in Pennsylvania on November 10, 2010, in Harrisburg, where they participated in a Q&A session after each screening. In the film, William Smith (the witness whose testimony was critical to Dwyer's conviction) admitted he lied under oath to get a lighter sentence.
Smith's statements bolstered the opinion that the allegations against Dwyer were false and his conviction unjust. Smith's recanting also confirmed what Dwyer had said about himself at his final press conference, that he was an honest man, hence the film's title.

Famous quotes containing the word documentary:
“What is a novel if not a conviction of our fellow-mens existence strong enough to take upon itself a form of imagined life clearer than reality and whose accumulated verisimilitude of selected episodes puts to shame the pride of documentary history?”
—Joseph Conrad (18571924)
“If you want to tell the untold stories, if you want to give voice to the voiceless, youve got to find a language. Which goes for film as well as prose, for documentary as well as autobiography. Use the wrong language, and youre dumb and blind.”
—Salman Rushdie (b. 1948)
