Famous quotes containing the words frankly, stephen and/or smith:

    Almost everybody in the neighborhood had “troubles,” frankly localized and specified; but only the chosen had “complications.” To have them was in itself a distinction, though it was also, in most cases, a death warrant. People struggled on for years with “troubles,” but they almost always succumbed to “complications.”
    Edith Wharton (1862–1937)

    I forsak the, Kyng Herowdes, and thi werkes alle;
    Ther is a chyld in Bedlem born is beter than we alle.’
    —Unknown. St. Stephen and King Herod (l. 6–8)

    The indefatigable pursuit of an unattainable perfection—even though nothing more than the pounding of an old piano—is what alone gives a meaning to our life on this unavailing star.
    —Logan Pearsall Smith (1865–1946)
