Quiapo Church - Abortifacients Sold By Private Vendors

Abortifacients Sold By Private Vendors

The vicinity of the shrine is a popular area of unsafe abortifacients, local gastric irritants and untested herbal folk (potions) remedies which are sold by private vendors. The merchandise are anonymously sold from the surrounding stalls of the shrine. Abortion is illegal in the Philippines, and individuals who cannot afford the surgical abortion procedure resort to these vendors.

The Filipino Television Media often covers stories of dead fetuses being left anonymously outside of the Blessed Sacrament chapel of the shrine and is officially condemned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila. Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales has issued several canonical excommunications for women who perform intentional abortion in relation to such practices near the shrine, as ruled by the Latiae Sententiae punishment by the Roman Catholic Church. The fetuses covered by the Filipino TV media are often left anonymously wrapped in sack-cloth or plain boxes.

Famous quotes containing the words sold and/or private:

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.
    Bible: New Testament, Matthew 13:45,46.

A private should preserve a respectful attitude toward his superiors, and should seldom or never proceed so far as to offer suggestions to his general in the field. If the battle is not being conducted to suit him, it is better for him to resign. By the etiquette of war, it is permitted to none below the rank of newspaper correspondent to dictate to the general in the field.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)
