Famous quotes containing the words question and answer, question and, question and/or answer:

Nature puts no question and answers none which we mortals ask. She has long ago taken her resolution.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The question mark is alright when it is all alone when it
is used as a brand on cattle or when it could be used
in decoration but connected with writing it is
    completely entirely completely uninteresting.... A
question is a question, anybody can know that a
question is a question and so why add to it the
question mark when it is already there when the
question is already there in the writing.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)

But psychoanalysis has taught that the dead—a dead parent, for example—can be more alive for us, more powerful, more scary, than the living. It is the question of ghosts.
    Jacques Derrida (20th century)

Nothing to be done really about animals. Anything you do looks foolish. The answer isn’t in us. It’s almost as if we’re put here on earth to show how silly they aren’t.
    Russell Hoban (b. 1925)
