Queensland Rail - Founded

Founded

Queensland Rail history began from a fledgling rail business in 1865 to become Australia’s largest rail and transport enterprise.

For the past 145 years, QR has played a major role in the Queensland’s economy, providing the backbone for economic, social and regional development and growth across the State. One of QR's first service was carrying school children and dignitaries on the first rail line in Queensland running from Ipswich to Grandchester.

In 2009, the State Premier of Queensland, Anna Bligh, announced the privatisation of QR’s coal, general freight, network and services businesses. These have been brought together to create QR National.

The new QR National and Queensland Rail businesses officially separated on 1 July 2010, marking the beginning of significant new era for Queensland Rail.

Modified versions of Queensland Rail advertisements for "train etiquette" received attention on Reddit.

Famous quotes containing the word founded:

Whenever an obviously well founded statement is made in England by a person specially well acquainted with the facts, that unlucky person is instantly and frantically contradicted by all the people who obviously know nothing about it.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

What you don’t understand is that it is possible to be an atheist, it is possible not to know if God exists or why He should, and yet to believe that man does not live in a state of nature but in history, and that history as we know it now began with Christ, it was founded by Him on the Gospels.
    Boris Pasternak (1890–1960)

The spiritual kinship between Lincoln and Whitman was founded upon their Americanism, their essential Westernism. Whitman had grown up without much formal education; Lincoln had scarcely any education. One had become the notable poet of the day; one the orator of the Gettsyburg Address. It was inevitable that Whitman as a poet should turn with a feeling of kinship to Lincoln, and even without any association or contact feel that Lincoln was his.
    Edgar Lee Masters (1869–1950)
