Queensland Australian Basketball League
The Queensland Basketball League, often abbreviated to the QBL, is a conference of the Australian Basketball Association (ABA). The QBL was previously broken into two divisions, the Sunstate Division and the Southern Cross Division. It is used as a development league for Queensland teams competing in the National Basketball League.
The league was formed in 1986 as the Queensland State Basketball League and in 1994 merged with the South and East conference of the SEABL to form the North conference of the Continental Basketball Association. This was renamed the Australian Basketball Association in 2000 with the addition of the Big V, Central ABL and Waratah League. In 2007 the Sunstate and Southern Cross Divisions merged for form a single QBL competition, with a Southern Queensland Development League also running.

Famous quotes containing the words australian, basketball and/or league:
“Beyond the horizon, or even the knowledge, of the cities along the coast, a great, creative impulse is at workthe only thing, after all, that gives this continent meaning and a guarantee of the future. Every Australian ought to climb up here, once in a way, and glimpse the various, manifold life of which he is a part.”
—Vance Palmer (18851959)
“Perhaps basketball and poetry have just a few things in common, but the most important is the possibility of transcendence. The opposite is labor. In writing, every writer knows when he or she is laboring to achieve an effect. You want to get from here to there, but find yourself willing it, forcing it. The equivalent in basketball is aiming your shot, a kind of strained and usually ineffective purposefulness. What you want is to be in some kind of flow, each next moment a discovery.”
—Stephen Dunn (b. 1939)
“Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
Forward the Light Brigade!”
—Alfred Tennyson (18091892)
