Queens Moat Houses plc was a British public limited company engaged primarily in the hotel business.
It came to public attention after the suspension of its shares on 31 March 1993 consequent upon significant financial difficulties which precipitated a spectacular collapse. The company was subsequently investigated under Section 432(2) of the Companies Act 1985. Queens Moat Houses was bought by Goldman Sachs in August 2005. The company was then renamed QMH Limited.
The remaining 18 UK hotels, operated by QMH UK Limited (formerly Queens Moat Houses UK Limited), are either operated under franchise agreements with InterContinental Hotels Group - 12 Holiday Inn and 3 Crowne Plaza hotels, or are members of the Best Western consortium - 3 Best Western Moat House Hotels.
Famous quotes containing the words queens, moat and/or houses:
“The queers of the sixties, like those since, have connived with their repression under a veneer of respectability. Good mannered city queens in suits and pinstripes, so busy establishing themselves, were useless at changing anything.”
—Derek Jarman (b. 1942)
“This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“Hast ever ben in Omaha
Where rolls the dark Missouri down,
Where four strong horses scarce can draw
An empty wagon through the town?
Where sand is blown from every mound
To fill your eyes and ears and throat;
Where all the steamboats are aground,
And all the houses are afloat?...
If not, take heed to what I say,
Youll find it just as I have found it;
And if it lies upon your way
For Gods sake, reader, go around it!”
—For the State of Nebraska, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
