Olympic Career

The fast right-hander started boxing at the age of 20. At the U.S. championships, he beat the 2006 National Golden Gloves runner-up Jordan Shimmell (12:11) but lost to his friend and eventual winner Deontay Wilder(10:20). At the trials he lost again to tall hard-punching Wilder (7:11) but beat southpaw James Zimmerman and favoured southpaw Adam Willet (16:4) to advance to the finals where he lost to Wilder again (9:12). Deontay Wilder (born October 22, 1985 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama) is an American heavyweight boxer best known for winning two major national titles in 2007 and for being the only American boxer to win a medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Deontay Wilder boxes professionally at the heavyweight division and is 19-0 with 19 KOs.

Famous quotes containing the words olympic and/or career:

Like Olympic medals and tennis trophies, all they signified was that the owner had done something of no benefit to anyone more capably than everyone else.
    Joseph Heller (b. 1923)

What exacerbates the strain in the working class is the absence of money to pay for services they need, economic insecurity, poor daycare, and lack of dignity and boredom in each partner’s job. What exacerbates it in upper-middle class is the instability of paid help and the enormous demands of the career system in which both partners become willing believers. But the tug between traditional and egalitarian models of marriage runs from top to bottom of the class ladder.
    Arlie Hochschild (20th century)
