Qualified Flying Instructor - Central Flying School

Central Flying School

QFI and QHI instructional categories are awarded by the Central Flying School (CFS) of the UK Royal Air Force, a unit that can trace its history back to 1916 when it was formed under Commander (RN) Smith-Barry. The CFS awards a number of levels of instructional categories including B2 (newly graduated flying instructor), B1, A2 and the highest category, A1. Graduates of the CFS with an A2 category are allowed to put the initials "cfs" after their name and those with an A1 category, "cfs*".

The UK CFS was formed at the grass airfield of Upavon on Salisbury plain, moving to Wittering near Stamford and then an airfield with runways, Little Rissington, west of Oxford. Other moves have included to Cranwell and Leeming.

Famous quotes containing the words central, flying and/or school:

There has never been in history another such culture as the Western civilization M a culture which has practiced the belief that the physical and social environment of man is subject to rational manipulation and that history is subject to the will and action of man; whereas central to the traditional cultures of the rivals of Western civilization, those of Africa and Asia, is a belief that it is environment that dominates man.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)

What the hell is nostalgia doing in a science-fiction film? With the whole universe and all the future to play in, Lucas took his marvelous toys and crawled under the fringed cloth on the parlor table, back into a nice safe hideyhole, along with Flash Gordon and the Cowardly Lion and Luck Skywalker and the Flying Aces and the Hitler Jugend. If there’s a message there, I don’t think I want to hear it.
    Ursula K. Le Guin (b. 1929)

It will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.
