Public Image and Personal Life
Chopra is considered one of the most popular Bollywood celebrities in India. She also has a reputation as one of the most desirable women in India, and has been described as a sex symbol. Chopra is known for dressing up in simple yet stylish wear. Designers Falguni & Shane Peacock noted, "She is comfortable in her own skin and looks ravishing in whatever she wears, be it a bikini, short or long dress or even a saree." As her most distinctive physical features, Chopra's figure, eye colour, and especially her "bee-stung" lips have been cited by the media as her trademark. She is often referred to by the nickname "Piggy Chops", which was given to her by co-stars on the set of the film Bluffmaster! in 2005. Chopra does not come from a film background, and announces herself as a self-made woman. In an interview with The Express Tribune she explained that her journey has been a learning experience as she came into the film industry without knowing anyone.
She often ranks high on lists of most powerful, popular, or attractive Indian celebrities. In 2006, the UK magazine Eastern Eye ranked her first on their list of "Asia's Sexiest Women". The same year, an eBay online poll crowned her "Style Diva of the Year". In 2008 she was chosen as "Godess of Atlantis" at the mega inauguration function of Dubai's Atlantis, The Palm on Palm Jumeirah where she did the gracious act of introducing 'Atlantis Rising', an aerial ballet of fireworks, performed by Grucci family. Chopra occupied the top slot in Rediff.com's annual listing of "Bollywood's Best Actress" in 2009 and also featured in the list for the years 2005, 2006 and 2008. In 2009 she was ranked by Rediff.com as the third most powerful actress in India. In January 2011, she placed fifth on Rediff's list of "Top 10 Actresses of 2000–2010". She ranked 3rd in The Times of India's 50 most desirable women of 2010, and ranked 4th for 2011. In 2011, she was declared by People Magazine as "India's Best Dressed Woman of the year" and Maxim Magazine named her the "Hottest Girl of the year". In April 2012, Chopra was declared as the Topmost influential Indian in the social media circuit by a survey conducted by Pinstorm India.
Chopra has said that she is very close to her family and is grateful for what her family has sacrificed for her. Although known for her media friendly attitude, Chopra has always been evasive about her personal life. Concerning her online presence on Twitter she said, "One thing that I haven't done and never will is talking about my personal life." However, she has maintained that when there's an announcement worth making, she will talk. She lives with her family and dog named Brando.

Famous quotes containing the words public, image, personal and/or life:
“The media have just buried the last yuppie, a pathetic creature who had not heard the news that the great pendulum of public conciousness has just swung from Greed to Compassion and from Tex-Mex to meatballs.”
—Barbara Ehrenreich (b. 1941)
“The exile is a singular, whereas refugees tend to be thought of in the mass. Armenian refugees, Jewish refugees, refugees from Franco Spain. But a political leader or artistic figure is an exile. Thomas Mann yesterday, Theodorakis today. Exile is the noble and dignified term, while a refugee is more hapless.... What is implied in these nuances of social standing is the respect we pay to choice. The exile appears to have made a decision, while the refugee is the very image of helplessness.”
—Mary McCarthy (19121989)
“I am in no boastful mood. I shall not do more than I can, and I shall do all I can to save the government, which is my sworn duty as well as my personal inclination. I shall do nothing in malice. What I deal with is too vast for malicious dealing.”
—Abraham Lincoln (18091865)
“Its not that we have too much mother, but too little father. We cant forgive our mothers for taking the place of our fathers until we are ready to see that the point of a mans life is to be a father and a mentor, and we cant do that because we dont know how we would be a father or a mentor when we never had one.”
—Frank Pittman (20th century)
