In contrast to King Albert II's title, King of the Belgians, Princess Claire is called Princess of Belgium, not Princess of the Belgians, a title that does not exist. She received this title from the King ten days before her marriage, by Royal Decree of April 1st 2003 (entered into force on the date of the wedding, on 12 April 2003). This title is no longer automatic for a consort since a Royal Decree of 1991, abrogating the 1891 Royal Decree that provided this automatism.

Prince Laurent doesn't hold a personal title as younger princes used to in the past, such as Count of Flanders or Prince of Liège. So she has no other title as a consort.

Famous quotes containing the words titles and, titles and/or styles:

We have to be despised by somebody whom we regard as above us, or we are not happy; we have to have somebody to worship and envy, or we cannot be content. In America we manifest this in all the ancient and customary ways. In public we scoff at titles and hereditary privilege, but privately we hanker after them, and when we get a chance we buy them for cash and a daughter.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

Lear. Dost thou call me fool, boy?
Fool. All thy other titles thou hast given away; that thou wast born with.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Can we love our children when they are homely, awkward, unkempt, flaunting the styles and friendships we don’t approve of, when they fail to be the best, the brightest, the most accomplished at school or even at home? Can we be there when their world has fallen apart and only we can restore their faith and confidence in life?
    Neil Kurshan (20th century)
