Foods Unsuitable For Pressure Cooking
Some foods are not recommended for pressure cooking in liquid. Such foods could expand too much, froth, and sputter, which can result in blocking the steam vent. Examples include macaroni, cranberries, and cereals such as oatmeal. Dumplings should not be cooked under pressure, otherwise the dumplings will expand, block the steam vent, and trigger the safety devices that prevent over-pressure. Dumplings can be added to a stew already cooked in the pressure cooker and gently simmered without the lid on.

Famous quotes containing the words foods, unsuitable, pressure and/or cooking:
“There are many of us who cannot but feel dismal about the future of various cultures. Often it is hard not to agree that we are becoming culinary nitwits, dependent upon fast foods and mass kitchens and megavitamins for our basically rotten nourishment.”
—M.F.K. Fisher (19081992)
“Any appellative at all savouring of arbitrary rank is unsuitable to a man of liberal and catholic mind.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“Much of the pressure contemporary parents feel with respect to dressing children in designer clothes, teaching young children academics, and giving them instruction in sports derives directly from our need to use our children to impress others with our economic surplus. We find good rather than real reasons for letting our children go along with the crowd.”
—David Elkind (20th century)
“Reading any collection of a mans quotations is like eating the ingredients that go into a stew instead of cooking them together in the pot. You eat all the carrots, then all the potatoes, then the meat. You wont go away hungry, but its not quite satisfying. Only a biography, or autobiography, gives you the hot meal.”
—Christopher Buckley, U.S. author. A review of three books of quotations from Newt Gingrich. Newties Greatest Hits, The New York Times Book Review (March 12, 1995)
