Provincial Government
Reforms in June 1995 changed the provincial government system. Regional (at-large) members of Parliament became provincial governors, while retaining their national seats in Parliament.
Papua New Guinea has 22 province-level divisions: twenty provinces, one autonomous province (Bougainville) and the National Capital District.

Famous quotes containing the words provincial and/or government:
“The divinity in man is the true vestal fire of the temple which is never permitted to go out, but burns as steadily and with as pure a flame on the obscure provincial altar as in Numas temple at Rome.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Nations do not think, they only feel. They get their feelings at second hand through their temperaments, not their brains. A nation can be broughtby force of circumstances, not argumentto reconcile itself to any kind of government or religion that can be devised; in time it will fit itself to the required conditions; later it will prefer them and will fiercely fight for them.”
—Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (18351910)
