Politics of Greenland

Politics of Greenland takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic Danish dependency. The Prime Minister is the head of government, and of a multi-party system. Greenland is a self-governing overseas administrative division of Denmark since 1979. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Parliament of Greenland (known as Inatsisartut). The party system is dominated by the social democratic Forward, the separatist and socialist Inuit Community and the conservative liberal and unionist Feeling of Community. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

Famous quotes containing the words politics and/or greenland:

Europe has a set of primary interests, which to us have none, or a very remote relation. Hence she must be engaged in frequent controversies, the causes of which are essentially foreign to our concerns. Hence, therefore, it must be unwise in us to implicate ourselves, by artificial ties, in the ordinary vicissitudes of her politics or the ordinary combinations and collisions of her friendships or enmities.
    George Washington (1732–1799)

I was the toast of two continents: Greenland and Australia.
    Dorothy Parker (1893–1967)
