Author
The comic does not name its creator, attributing each comic only to "THE AUTHORS". The author is in fact web developer Steve Havelka of Portland, Oregon, whose identity became public during Pokey's early years. In discussions and message boards dedicated to Pokey, Havelka revealed that Pokey was originally intended as a parody of another MS Paint comic about a penguin. Havelka's name appears in the 483rd Pokey strip, in which Pokey exclaims, "STEVE HAVELKA IS DEAD! ! !"

Famous quotes containing the word author:
“I have been reporting club meetings for four years and I am tired of hearing reviews of the books I was brought up on. I am tired of amateur performances at occasions announced to be for purposes either of enjoyment or improvement. I am tired of suffering under the pretense of acquiring culture. I am tired of hearing the word culture used so wantonly. I am tired of essays that let no guilty author escape quotation.”

“In America the majority raises formidable barriers around the liberty of opinion; within these barriers an author may write what he pleases, but woe to him if he goes beyond them.”
—Alexis de Tocqueville (18051859)
“The world is forever babbling of originality; but there never yet was an original man, in the sense intended by the world; the first man himselfwho according to the Rabbins was also the first authornot being an original; the only original author being God.”
