Since cosmetic surgery has become a lucrative industry, many doctors are starting to perform cosmetic procedures without having any specialization in them. In many countries, there is little to no regulation as to what procedures medical doctors can perform. There are no requirements for cosmetic procedure specialization, so doctors can legally perform cosmetic procedures without first being certified by their country's plastic surgeon board. Due to this, patients looking for cosmetic surgery must make sure that their surgeon specializes in the procedure that they are getting and that the surgeon is certified with their country's board of plastic surgeons.
