Planned Capital Cities

Several of the world's capital cities are planned cities, including Canberra in Australia, Brasília in Brazil, Belmopan in Belize, New Delhi in India, Abuja in Nigeria, Astana in Kazakhstan, Naypyidaw in Burma, Islamabad in Pakistan and Washington, D.C., in the United States. The federal administrative centre of Malaysia, Putrajaya, is also a planned city.

Famous quotes containing the words planned, capital and/or cities:

    “If little planned is little sinned
    But little need the grave distress.
    What’s dying but a second wind?
    How but in zig-zag wantonness
    Could trumpeter Michael be so brave?”
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    Oh, a capital ship for an ocean trip,
    Was the Walloping Window Blind;
    No gale that blew dismayed her crew
    Or troubled the captain’s mind.
    Charles Edward Carryl (1841–1920)

    This is not only a war of soldiers in uniform. It is a war of the people, of all the people, and it must be fought not only on the battlefield but in the cities and the villages, in the factories and on the farms, in the home and in the heart of every man, woman and child who loves freedom.
    Arthur Wimperis (1874–1953)
