The games soundtrack was first released in Japan on September 21, 2000, with the game's original title Mario Story: Original Soundtrack, by Enterbrain, and distributed by the magazine Famitsu. With cover design similar to Beatles (album) with sold orange color, and title sticker giving the album's title. It was followed in the United States a few months later as a Nintendo Power exclusive with the illustration from the internatinal game cover. It included both the original music to the game, as well as sound effects, in 78 tracks on two disks. All of the games' compositions were written by two main composers the main background music by Yuka Tsujiyoko, with reprise arrangement of the 'Mario Bros.' themes by Koji Kondo. The games other event and sound effects music were composed by Taishi Senda.
The games audio mostly received positive reviews, Lucas M. Thomas of IGN.com described it as; "Paper Mario is vividly appointed with catchy, expressive tunes and comical audio cues." While in a Rockbaby.com of the composer Yuka Tsujiyoko, they described it as being "mostly uplifting... bunch of remakes of older Mario songs." Yuka in the interview said that the "basic point of the music was making without interrupting the original "Mario" music."
