“My position is a naturalistic one; I see philosophy not as an a priori propaedeutic or groundwork for science, but as continuous with science. I see philosophy and science as in the same boata boat which, to revert to Neuraths figure as I so often do, we can rebuild only at sea while staying afloat in it. There is no external vantage point, no first philosophy.”
—Willard Van Orman Quine (b. 1908)
“Our technology forces us to live mythically, but we continue to think fragmentarily, and on single, separate planes.”
—Marshall McLuhan (19111980)

A few minutes later, feeling very tired, he left the room, remarking, I have no disposition to leave this precious circle. I love to be here surrounded by my family and friends. Then he gave them his blessing and said, I am ready to go and I wish you goodnight.”
—For the State of New Hampshire, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“We endeavour more that men should speak of us, than how and what they speak, and it sufficeth us that our name run in mens mouths, in what manner soever. It seemeth that to be known is in some sort to have life and continuance in other mens keeping.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
