Famous quotes containing the words science and, science, technology, program and/or continuance:
“Science and technology multiply around us. To an increasing extent they dictate the languages in which we speak and think. Either we use those languages, or we remain mute.”
—J.G. (James Graham)
“Science is the language of the temporal world; love is that of the spiritual world. Man, indeed, describes more than he explains; while the angelic spirit sees and understands. Science saddens man; love enraptures the angel; science is still seeking, love has found. Man judges of nature in relation to itself; the angelic spirit judges of it in relation to heaven. In short to the spirits everything speaks.”
—HonorĂ© De Balzac (17991850)
“The real accomplishment of modern science and technology consists in taking ordinary men, informing them narrowly and deeply and then, through appropriate organization, arranging to have their knowledge combined with that of other specialized but equally ordinary men. This dispenses with the need for genius. The resulting performance, though less inspiring, is far more predictable.”
—John Kenneth Galbraith (b. 1908)
“Called on one occasion to a homestead cabin whose occupant had been found frozen to death, Coroner Harvey opened the door, glanced in, and instantly pronounced his verdict, Deader n hell!”
—For the State of Nebraska, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
“We endeavour more that men should speak of us, than how and what they speak, and it sufficeth us that our name run in mens mouths, in what manner soever. It seemeth that to be known is in some sort to have life and continuance in other mens keeping.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
