Outer Circle Railway Line - Today

Today

Today, the southern section of the line from Camberwell to Alamein is part of the Melbourne suburban railway network as the Alamein line. The northern section of the line, starting at East Camberwell, has been converted into the Outer Circle Trail, a walking and bicycle path. All of the closed stations have since been demolished, as has the railway infrastructure of the line, but some road overbridges and underbridges remain. The rail bridge over the Yarra River was converted into a road bridge as part of the Chandler Highway sometime after 1919. The track between Fairfield station and the Yarra River came into use from 1919 as the APM Siding, serving a paper mill built on the site.

Famous quotes containing the word today:

The adequate study of culture, our own and those on the opposite side of the globe, can press on to fulfillment only as we learn today from the humanities as well as from the scientists.
    Ruth Benedict (1887–1948)

In times past there were rituals of passage that conducted a boy into manhood, where other men passed along the wisdom and responsibilities that needed to be shared. But today we have no rituals. We are not conducted into manhood; we simply find ourselves there.
    Kent Nerburn (20th century)

A hundred things are done today in the divine name of Youth, that if they showed their true colours would be seen by rights to belong rather to old age.
    Wyndham Lewis (1882–1957)
