Oscar Alin - Life

Life

Alin was born in Falun. In 1872 he completed his doctorate and became docent of political science, and in 1882 professor skytteanus of Government and Eloquence at Uppsala University. As professor skytteanus he succeeded Vilhelm Erik Svedelius, whom he also followed in the inspectorship of the university's Västmanland-Dalarna Nation. In September 1888 he was elected a member of the first chamber of the Riksdag, where he attached himself to the conservative protectionist party, over which, from the first, he exercised great authority. He retired from the Riksdag in 1899 to become rector magnificus of the university, but died already at the end of the next year. It is as a historian that Alin is most remarkable.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

... into that rushing beast of the night,
sucked up by that great dragon, to split
from my life with no flag,
    no belly,
    no cry.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

In this world there’s room for everyone, and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goosestepped us into misery and bloodshed.
    Charlie Chaplin (1889–1977)

The moment one accosts a stranger or is accosted by him is above all in this life the moment of drama.... Whoever we meet watches us intently at the quick, strange moment of meeting, to see whether we are disposed to be friendly.
    Haniel Long (1888–1956)
