Famous quotes containing the words order of, order, red and/or cross:

The order of the world is always right—such is the judgment of God. For God has departed, but he has left his judgment behind, the way the Cheshire Cat left his grin.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)

Is it true that one travels in order to know mankind? It is easier to get to know other people at home, but abroad one gets to know oneself.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

The complaint ... about modern steel furniture, modern glass houses, modern red bars and modern streamlined trains and cars is that all these objets modernes, while adequate and amusing in themselves, tend to make the people who use them look dated. It is an honest criticism. The human race has done nothing much about changing its own appearance to conform to the form and texture of its appurtenances.
    —E.B. (Elwyn Brooks)

She remembered home as a place where there were always too many children, a cross man and work piling up around a sick woman.
    Willa Cather (1873–1947)
