Employment
The Orca class are designated as "Patrol Craft Training". The craft are primarily used to facilitate the two-to-six-week long 'at sea' component of naval officer training. They are also used to train non-commissioned members and provide an at sea experience for the teenaged members of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. Orcas are vessels of opportunity for surveillance and search and rescue. They are all located at CFB Esquimalt.
Two of the craft were temporarily fitted with .50-cal machine guns for port security during Op PODIUM the Canadian Forces' support of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Famous quotes containing the word employment:
“My job as a reservationist was very routine, computerized ... I had no free will. I was just part of that stupid computer.”
—Beryl Simpson, U.S. employment counselor; former airline reservationist. As quoted in Working, book 2, by Studs Terkel (1973)
“What exercise is to the body, employment is to the mind and morals.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The boatmen appeared to lead an easy and contented life, and we thought that we should prefer their employment ourselves to many professions which are much more sought after. They suggested how few circumstances are necessary to the well-being and serenity of man, how indifferent all employments are, and that any may seem noble and poetic to the eyes of men, if pursued with sufficient buoyancy and freedom.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
