Operation Sweeny

During the Iraq War, Operation Sweeny was a counter-smuggling sweep of the Al Faw Peninsula and nearby waters conducted beginning on 15 October 2003. Elements of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, operating from the USS Peleliu, used small boats and landed units to capture a number of persons, boats and trucks smuggling fuel out of Iraq.

Followed Operation Chamberlain, followed by Operation OK Corral

Famous quotes containing the word operation:

Human knowledge and human power meet in one; for where the cause is not known the effect cannot be produced. Nature to be commanded must be obeyed; and that which in contemplation is as the cause is in operation as the rule.
    Francis Bacon (1560–1626)
