Popular Culture
In the "Bad Breaks" episode (season 2, episode 13) of the US TV series Burn Notice, protagonist Michael Westen uses the term "Operation Quicksilver" to indicate to his friend Sam that in order to overcome a bank robber without injuring any hostages, Sam must convince the bank robber that he is a powerful, dangerous man who owns the bank and who will maim and torture anyone involved in the robbery.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:
“The press is no substitute for institutions. It is like the beam of a searchlight that moves restlessly about, bringing one episode and then another out of darkness into vision. Men cannot do the work of the world by this light alone. They cannot govern society by episodes, incidents, and eruptions. It is only when they work by a steady light of their own, that the press, when it is turned upon them, reveals a situation intelligible enough for a popular decision.”
—Walter Lippmann (18891974)
“... there are some who, believing that all is for the best in the best of possible worlds, and that to-morrow is necessarily better than to-day, may think that if culture is a good thing we shall infallibly be found to have more of it that we had a generation since; and that if we can be shown not to have more of it, it can be shown not to be worth seeking.”
—Katharine Fullerton Gerould (18791944)
