Open Transport was the name given by Apple Inc. to its implementation of the Unix-originated System V STREAMS. Based on code licensed from Mentat's Portable Streams product, Open Transport was built to provide the Mac OS with a modern TCP/IP implementation, replacing MacTCP. Apple also added its own implementation of AppleTalk to the stack to support legacy networks.
Famous quotes containing the words open and/or transport:
“This is peace with dignity. This is peace with commitment. This is our gift to our peoples and the generations to come.... It will be real, as we open our hearts and minds to each other.”
—Bin Talal Hussein (b. 1935)
“One may disavow and disclaim vices that surprise us, and whereto our passions transport us; but those which by long habits are rooted in a strong and ... powerful will are not subject to contradiction. Repentance is but a denying of our will, and an opposition of our fantasies.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
