Open Bioinformatics Foundation

The Open Bioinformatics Foundation is a non profit, volunteer run organization focused on supporting open source programming in bioinformatics.

The mission of the foundation is to support development of open source toolkits for bioinformatics, organize and run the Bioinformatics Open Source Conference, and generally assist in the development and promotion of open source software development in the life sciences.

The foundation hosts servers for mailing lists, websites, and code repositories for the following open source projects:

  • BioDAS (see: ) - XML Infrastructure for exchanging genome annotations
  • BioJava - Java toolkit
  • BioMOBY - Data and application execution through web services
  • BioPerl - Perl toolkit
  • BioPipe - Pipelines and workflow project for creating bioinformatics protocol
  • BioPython - Python toolkit
  • BioRuby - Ruby toolkit
  • BioPHP
  • BioSQL - RDBMS Database schema for storing sequences, annotations, taxa data.
  • OBDA (see: ) - a standard for sequence data access locally, remotely, and via RDBMS
  • EMBOSS - Sequence analysis toolkit.

Famous quotes containing the words open and/or foundation:

    O polished perturbation! golden care!
That keep’st the ports of slumber open wide
    To many a watchful night.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

The foundation of humility is truth. The humble man sees himself as he is. If his depreciation of himself were untrue,... it would not be praiseworthy, and would be a form of hypocrisy, which is one of the evils of Pride. The man who is falsely humble, we know from our own experience, is one who is falsely proud.
    Henry Fairlie (1924–1990)
