Modified Newtonian Dynamics Within The Oort Cloud
It has been suggested that at their distances from the Sun, the objects comprising the Oort cloud should experience accelerations of the order of 10ā10 m sā2, and thus should be within the realms at which Modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) come into effect. According to this hypothesis, which was proposed to account for the discrepancies in the galaxy rotation curve which are more commonly attributed to dark matter, at very low accelerations acceleration ceases to be linearly proportional to force. If correct, this would have significant implications regarding the formation and structure of the Oort cloud. However, the majority of cosmologists do not consider MOND a valid hypothesis.

Famous quotes containing the words modified, dynamics and/or cloud:
“Poetry presents indivisible wholes of human consciousness, modified and ordered by the stringent requirements of form. Prose, aiming at a definite and concrete goal, generally suppresses everything inessential to its purpose; poetry, existing only to exhibit itself as an aesthetic object, aims only at completeness and perfection of form.”
—Richard Harter Fogle, U.S. critic, educator. The Imagery of Keats and Shelley, ch. 1, University of North Carolina Press (1949)
“Anytime we react to behavior in our children that we dislike in ourselves, we need to proceed with extreme caution. The dynamics of everyday family life also have a way of repeating themselves.”
—Cathy Rindner Tempelsman (20th century)
“Perhaps I stand now on the eve of a new life, shall watch the sun rise and disappear behind a black cloud extending out into a grey sky cover. I shall not be deceived by its glory. If it is to be so, there is work and the influence that work brings, but not happiness. Am I strong enough to face that?”
—Beatrice Potter Webb (18581943)
