One Year War - Similarities To World War II

Similarities To World War II

The One Year War closely resembles World War II and the conflict between the Axis Powers and the Allied Nations. The war was started by a dictator in a country with few resources and an inferior economy. Like WWII Germany, the Zeon had the advantage of technologically advanced units at the beginning of the war. The ensuing blitzkrieg shattered Federation defenses and allowed the Zeon to conquer a large swath of territory, totaling two-thirds of the Earth's land mass (including most of Asia, Europe, and North America). Unfortunately (for Zeon), they did not possess enough troops to maintain control over all of this territory and thus were forced to defend key manufacturing and material centers. Because of this, the Federation was able to catch up to Zeon in terms of technology.

In the original Mobile Suit Gundam, towards the end, Degwin Zabi compared his son, Gihren Zabi, to Adolf Hitler, saying that he is like the remnants of the dictator of the old century.

Famous quotes containing the words war ii, similarities, world and/or war:

    I realized how for all of us who came of age in the late sixties and early seventies the war was a defining experience. You went or you didn’t, but the fact of it and the decisions it forced us to make marked us for the rest of our lives, just as the depression and World War II had marked my parents.
    Linda Grant (b. 1949)

    One internationally known twin researcher sees similarities between twins’ relationships and those of couple who have been married a long time. Fifteen-year-old twins, as well as spouses approaching their fortieth anniversary, each know their partners’ likes, dislikes, habits, and idiosyncracies as well as they know their own.
    Pamela Patrick Novotny (20th century)

    Of old the world on dreaming fed;
    Grey Truth is now her painted toy....
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    It is inhuman to continue a war which could easily be ended.
    Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990)
