As Smart As We Are (aka The Author Project)
On their critically acclaimed album "As Smart As We Are", published authors and writers wrote lyrics on request, which Hearst and Camp then set to music. Some writers wrote basic chord progressions or requested a certain genre for their song to fall under but for the most part Michael and Joshua wrote their own music for the lyrics.
Contributing authors included:
- Jonathan Ames
- Margaret Atwood
- Paul Auster
- Michael Chabon

This provides a large variation in each song's theme, feel, and over all sound. Some lyrics are more poetic, while others tell stories.

Famous quotes containing the words smart and/or author:
“Im a very smart guy. I havent a feeling or a scruple in the world. All I have the itch for is money. I am so money greedy that for twenty-five bucks a day and expenses, mostly gasoline and whisky, I do my thinking myself, what there is of it; I risk my whole future, the hatred of the cops ... I dodge bullets and eat saps, and say thank you very much, if you have any more trouble, I hope youll think of me, Ill just leave one of my cards in case anything comes up.”
—Raymond Chandler (18881959)
“Reviewers, with some rare exceptions, are a most stupid and malignant race. As a bankrupt thief turns thief-taker in despair, so an unsuccessful author turns critic.”
—Percy Bysshe Shelley (17921822)
