On A Night Like This - Background and Composition

Background and Composition

"On a Night Like This" written by Steve Torch, Graham Stack, Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling, and was produced by Mark Taylor from Metro and Graham Stack. The song was recorded at Dreamhouse in London, England. Minogue also recorded a b-side to the single called "Ocean Blue", written by Minogue and her co-writers. The song was recorded at the same studio in England. "On A Night Like This" is a midtempo dance-pop song. Pandora Radio describes the song as featuring house and nu-disco influences, dancable grooves, acoustic guitar riffs, a prominent use of synthesizers and other vocal harmonies. MusicOMH had described the song as "breezy".

"On a Night Like This" was released in Australia and New Zealand on 25 September 2000, by Mushroom Records physically, and released worldwide by Parlophone digitally. Before Minogue had recorded the song, or had signed to Parlophone, Swedish singer Pandora had recorded the song in 1999. However, the recording wasn't released and it was later covered by the Heavy Metal band for their extended play. Thus, it is considered a Minogue original. After 'Light Years' was finished, her On a Night Like This Tour was named after the single, and featured the same artwork, which featured Minogue laying on a patio looking towards the camera, while the sun's golden rays accentuate her positioning.

In 2012, for her K25 music anniversary, she re-released "On a Night Like This" on her youtube channel, as part of an upcoming compilation album The Abbey Road Sessions including reworks of her previous singles. The song was recorded in London, England at Abbey Road Studios in November 2011.

Famous quotes containing the words background and/or composition:

They were more than hostile. In the first place, I was a south Georgian and I was looked upon as a fiscal conservative, and the Atlanta newspapers quite erroneously, because they didn’t know anything about me or my background here in Plains, decided that I was also a racial conservative.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

The naive notion that a mother naturally acquires the complex skills of childrearing simply because she has given birth now seems as absurd to me as enrolling in a nine-month class in composition and imagining that at the end of the course you are now prepared to begin writing War and Peace.
