Ollerton and Boughton - History and Amenities

History and Amenities

In the 1970s, many coal miners from the Northern regions of the United Kingdom relocated here and generally congregated at the somewhat legendary 'Ollerton & Bevercotes Miners Welfare' or 'The Plough' where much blood was shed in The Battles Of The Bar. The elder community of Jocks and Geordies frequent 'The Geordie Club' (situated in the heart of 'The Geordie Estate', in Boughton) where they pass their time playing bingo and waiting for 'The Turn' to appear on-stage. The Blue Tit pub was also a major battlefield with the 'squaddies' from the local army training base fighting with the miners.

There is an Army Cadet Force and a community band.
